General Information
  • The ore jetty consists of a tubular steel pipe structure carrying a deck and rail transverse of a slewing book shiploader.  Loading is conducted via a conveyor belt system to the loader.
  • Eight multi-spring pile dolphins fitted with Yokohama air block fenders are situated clear of the ore jetty structure and vessels berth port side alongside, mooring to these dolphins.
  • The ore jetty is connected to the East Intercourse Island departure channel by a 170m wide channel dredged to 15.35m LAT in 1999.

  • Depth of water alongside is 17.2m LAAT.
  • Travel of shiploader is 180m.
  • Radius of ore delivery from fender facing 23.8m.
  • Ht. underside boom at LAT 23m.
  • Total length of fendering No 1 - No 8 dolphin is 344.8.
  • Basin length is 430m.
  • Basin width is 84m.
  • Rated capacity of shiploader SL1P is 9,500 tonnes/hour.
Restrictions
  • Maximum berthing displacement is 85,000 tonnes.
  • Length overall is 293m.
  • Beam is 50m.
  • Air Draft is 23m minus tide from underside boom.
  • Draft (when DUKC is not used) Height of tide =15.35m - 1.70m = Maximum Sailing Draft.
  • Tidal range MSL 2.7m MHHW 4.5m.
Entrance and Departure
  • Approach channel is 7.20m.
  • Departure channel is dredged to 15.35m to a width of 170m.
  • The bottom is mud and clay.
